WHAT AREA ARE YOU GOING TO VISIT?

01. SAN JOSÉ

San José is the capital of Costa Rica and is located in the Central Valley. Over the years, it has developed into a modern and cosmopolitan city. It's interesting to note that San Jose is home to

approximately one-third of Costa Rica's entire population. Additionally, the city is served by the Juan Santamaria International Airport, which is the country's main international gateway..

02. SARAPIQUÍ

Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí is a small town located in the Sarapiquí Canton in the province of Heredia in Costa Rica. It is a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty and rich biodiversity.

The town is surrounded by lush rainforests and several nature reserves, such as Braulio Carrillo National Park and La Selva Biological Station. These reserves offer hiking trails, and birdwatching opportunities.

03. BOCA TAPADA

Boca Tapada is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, making it a paradise for photography enthusiasts. Whether you're interested in capturing the beauty of nature, documenting birds in flight, exploring landscapes, or capturing wild animals in their natural habitat, Boca Tapada has it all.

04. TORTUGUERO

Tortuguero's main attraction is its expansive beach, where you can witness the incredible sight of seaturtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. Four species of sea turtles nest on these shores, including the endangered green turtles and the massive leatherback turtles. It's a truly awe-inspiring experience to observe these gentle creatures in their natural habitat.

Aside from sea turtle nesting, Tortuguero boasts a diverse ecosystem of wetlands, canals, and lush rainforests. Exploring the national park by boat or canoe is a popular activity, allowing you to discover the area's rich biodiversity. Keep your camera at the ready, as you may encounter monkeys, sloths, caimans, and a wide variety of bird species.

  • DAY 1:
    On this day, you will be arriving in Costa Rica at Juan Santamaria International

    Airport (SJO), where a member of our team will be waiting to pick you up and drive you to the Courtyard Alajuela Hotel.

    The hotel is located approximately 10 minutes away from the airport. Once you have completed the check-in process at the hotel, you can take some time to rest and prepare for the first day of adventure. In case you have forgotten to buy certain items such as bug spray or sunscreen lotion, there is a Walmart conveniently located just around the corner, within a 3-minute walking distance

    DAY 2:
    We are going to start with an early breakfast at the Courtyard Hotel, and after check-out, we are going to take our van to drive about 2 hours into Horquetas de Sarapiqui to do our first activity.

    Once here, you can take your camera gear out and start to fill up your memory cards. This first place has multiple trails and a mix between secondary forest and a chocolate plantation, which is a perfect way to start. Toucans, sloths, emerald basilisk, manakins, woodpeckers are just some of the animals that are free moving around.

    The lunch will also be at the same place, which is owned by a Costa Rican family. After this homemade food, you will have more time for another round in the grounds. At the end of the day you will go for the check in at Selva Verde Hotel

    DAY 3:
    This full day you will visit a fantastic site created by José Cope where you can find a variety of birds, wildlife, and interesting insects. José has done a great job of attracting diverse species to his feeders and creating natural settings around his house.

    Some of the bird species you might spot at Cope's Feeders include Oropendolas, Scarlet-rumped and Crimson-collared Tanagers, and much more.

    Also he will take us into a forest walk to look for some owls, ghost bats, trogons and more.

    DAY 4:
    One of the most famous Costa Rican’s animals to see is the red-eyed tree frog, so this day you will do a Macro session to capture amphibians and reptiles. Black and Green poison Dart Frog, Strawberry Poison Dart frog, eye-lashed pit vipers and much more will be part of the extraordinary creatures you will photograph.

    After lunch we will drive tow hours to our next location Boca Tapada.

    DAY 5:
    A day with a lot of action, first thing in the mourning is to enjoy the bird feeder of the lodge with good light and activity, after that we will have a chance to photograph the King Vulture at close which is one of the coolest things to do at Boca Tapada.

    After lunch we will rest a bit or do back ups of the photos because we will have a night time session with multi flash to capture flying bats.

    DAY 6:
    Before you leave Boca Tapada there are some time to explore for more birds until lunch time, then after we will take you back to Alajuela to the same Hotel you stayed the first day and get prepared for next day adventure.

    DAY 7:
    The early mourning flight will not give us time for breakfast but don’t worry, you will have it in one very beautiful restaurant with the Tortuguero River view right in front. The transfer is about 10 minutes away to the Domestic Terminal at Juan Santamaria Airport, after the check in the beautiful flight is 30 minutes and you will be on a completely different place.

    After breakfast you can get your camera gear out and do the first boat tour into the river and canals of Tortuguero. Great way to get into different ecosystems with multiple opportunities of herons, kingfishers, iguanas, crocodiles, caimans, sloths, monkeys and way more. We will be back at the Lodge for lunch and the afternoon you will have another boat tour.

    DAY 8:
    Another full day with two more boat excursion and great pool in case you wants to relax before the workshop is over, also we will have a time to visit the very interesting downtown of Tortuguero

    DAY 9:
    This last morning you will have time to shoot more around the grounds which are great for monkeys and birds. After breakfast we will do check out and get a transfer to the airstrip that is right in front of the lodge and flight back to Courtyard Alajuela for the last night before you go home.

    DAY 10: FLY HOME

    The Courtyard Alajuela Hotel have every 15 minutes shuttle to the airport from midnight to 10:00pm at night, so you just have to be ready at the lobby 3 hours before your flight departure and they will take you.
